In Naruto, burning through a huge chakra reserve is not the same as paying a permanent price for a technique. The jutsu on this list demand something that cannot simply be restored by resting: life, eyesight, a living human vessel, physical damage, years of waiting, or death itself. That is what makes them dangerous even in the hands of someone skilled enough to use them.

This is not a power ranking. The criterion is the cost built into the technique or its original method of use, not how large an explosion it can produce. Extremely destructive jutsu were left out when their only established drawback was enormous chakra consumption.

It also helps to separate three kinds of price. There is an unavoidable cost, as with Shiki Fūjin and C0, where the user’s death is tied directly to completing the technique. There is a permanent or structural cost, such as the eyesight consumed by Izanagi and Izanami or the living sacrifice required by Edo Tensei. And there are techniques whose danger comes from their original method of use, such as Naruto’s close-range Rasenshuriken. That distinction matters because a suicide technique should not be treated as identical to an attack that later became safe after its user developed a better delivery method. It also prevents exaggeration: not every drawback is a curse, and not every restriction applies equally to every person who inherits the same power. The useful question is always the same—where does the story establish the price, who actually pays it, and can that price be reduced without turning the ability into a fundamentally different technique?

Shiki Fūjin (Reaper Death Seal)

Life sacrifice

The caster summons the Shinigami to seal the target’s soul.

Completing the ritual also claims the caster’s life.

What changes: Death is not merely a risk; the caster’s loss is built into the completed technique.

Edo Tensei (Impure World Reincarnation)

Human sacrifice

The technique reincarnates a dead person in a regenerating body.

Each reincarnation requires a living human vessel.

What changes: The cost is paid by somebody else before the battle, not by the reanimated fighter.

Sacrifice

Izanagi

Loss of sight

Izanagi briefly rewrites an unfavorable outcome for the user.

The Sharingan used for it loses its light and becomes unusable.

What changes: Danzō can repeat it only because he has accumulated multiple Uchiha eyes.

Sharingan

Izanami

Loss of sight

Izanami traps its target in a sensory loop until they accept reality.

The Sharingan that performs the jutsu loses its light.

What changes: Unlike Izanagi, it does not rewrite reality; it stops the target from escaping it.

Eight Gates Released Formation

Expected death

The Eighth Gate removes the final physical restraint and creates an enormous power spike.

The Gate of Death destroys the user’s body and is supposed to be fatal.

What changes: Guy survives only because Naruto intervenes with extraordinary Six Paths power.

Rinne Tensei no Jutsu

User’s life

Rinne Tensei truly restores the dead rather than using artificial vessels.

The resurrection consumes the user’s life force and can kill them.

What changes: Nagato pays the price after restoring the victims of Pain’s attack.

Kotoamatsukami

Extreme cooldown

Kotoamatsukami alters a target’s will without clearly revealing the manipulation.

For the transplanted eye Itachi hid in the crow, normal reuse would take roughly ten years.

What changes: That interval should not be treated as a universal rule for Shisui using his original eyes.

Sōzō Saisei — Byakugō no Jutsu

Longevity

Creation Rebirth accelerates cell division while drawing on the Byakugō’s stored chakra.

The accelerated regeneration is associated with shortening the user’s natural lifespan.

What changes: The cost belongs to regeneration, not simply to opening a chakra-storage seal.

Self-destruction

Deidara turns his own body into the material for his final explosion.

C0 requires the user to die with the detonation.

What changes: Death is not an accidental side effect; it is part of the activation.

Wind Release: Rasenshuriken

Recoil damage

The original Rasenshuriken had to connect at close range.

Its microscopic wind blades also damaged Naruto’s arm and chakra network.

What changes: Naruto later solves the problem by throwing it in Sage Mode.

Recoil damage

These ten techniques show why Naruto’s most interesting power limits are not always about chakra capacity. Once sight, the body, time, or life itself enters the calculation, a jutsu stops being only a weapon and becomes a decision about what the character is willing to lose in order to get the result they need.

The list also reveals another useful distinction: the price can fall on the caster, on a victim required to make the technique work, or on an ability the character will permanently lose afterward. Shiki Fūjin and C0 consume the person performing them; Edo Tensei shifts the cost onto somebody else; Izanagi and Izanami turn an irreplaceable eye into a one-use resource. In every case, the technique forces the character to think beyond the immediate clash. A shinobi can win the fight and still end up in a worse position—or fail to survive long enough to benefit from the victory. That link between power and consequence is what keeps these abilities from feeling like simple win buttons. Their restrictions affect strategy before the jutsu is used, not just the aftermath.
